..maar misschien wel betrouwbaarder?

Een berichtje tussendoor.

Op de blog van Daniëlle zag ik dit berichtje, over wat veranderingen die Wikipedia zal ondergaan. Kort gezegd kan straks niet iedereen zomaar meer vanalles wijzigen, zonder goedkeuring door zogezegd betrouwbaar veronderstelde redacteuren.

Lekker sociaal dus.. ;-)

Als reden wordt het imago-probleem gegeven en wat voorbeelden van foute informatie in de encyclopedie, die voor dat probleem zouden zorgen. Die foute informatie zou soms te lang online hebben gestaan, voordat iemand die verbeterde. Dus gaat het niet om betrouwbaarheid.. maar om vermeende betrouwbaarheid? Ik weet het niet precies.

Ik vraag me dan allereerst af bij wie Wikipedia dat slechte imago heeft. Bij al die mensen die dagelijks Wikipedia gebruiken? Hmm.. Dat zal wel meevallen, denk ik. En anderen moeten eerst maar door die paar kleinigheden heenkijken hoor.

Volgens mij is dit net zoiets als met dat kind en het badwater of zo. Misschien dat door zo'n redacteurensysteem dé kracht van Wikipedia als social software wel teniet wordt gedaan. Gelukkig gaat het om een proef, die voorlopig alleen in Duitsland plaatsvindt.

Wat is het échte probleem?
Ik vraag me af: moeten we mensen nou als standaard onbetrouwbaar aanmerken, totdat het tegendeel is bewezen? En hoe bewijs je dat? En wie? Euh..

Of hebben we hier gewoon te maken met de immer aanwezige controleneigingen van de mens, die - al duurde het even - nu ook Wikipedia hebben bereikt? Alhoewel.. regeltjes waren er al eerder.. ;-)

A little message in between things.

At Daniëlle's blog I noticed this entry, about some future changes within Wikipedia. Briefly put it says that in a while everyone will not be able to make changes to all sorts of things right away, without approval by editors who are supposed to be reliable.

So pretty social.. ;-)

As a reason they give the image problem that Wikipedia has and some examples of wrong information in the encyclopedia, that is said to have caused that problem. That information sometimes had been online for too long, before someone corrected it. So isn't this about reliability.. but about alleged reliability? I don't know exactly.

The first question that I ask myself is by who Wikipedia has this image problem. By all of those people who use Wikipedia on a daily base? Hmm.. I think not. And all other people should look through those small problems eh.

To me this is something like throwing out the baby along with the bath water or something like that. Maybe that such an editor system will destroy thé force of Wikipedia as social software. Luckily this is still just a test, that will only be held in Germany for now.

What's the réal problem?
I wonder: do we have to judge people standard as not reliable, until the opposite is proved? And how do you prove something like that? And who? Eh..

Or are we just dealing here with the inclinations of humans wanting to control things, which inclinations are always there, and that now - although it took a little while - have also reached Wikipedia? Ah well.. they had rules already.. ;-)
